Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) on Tuesday has imposed fine on Monal Restaurant and others for using polythene bags. Under the supervision of Director General, Pak-EPA team, carried out an inspection in the Margallah hills national park, Pir Sohawa Region and took actions against those still using polythene bags for fruits and vegetables transportation and storage.
Fines were imposed on Monal Restaurant, La Montana Restaurant, and Gloria Jean’s Coffees. Monitoring Team of Pak EPA checked the waste water discharge facilities of all restaurants and collected water samples to ensure that the restaurants in compliance of environmental laws and regulations and sufficient measure to control sewage discharge into the national park.
According to a press release issued by the department, the restaurants were fined lack of proper mechanism to dispose off their solid waste and sewage.
Under section eleven of Pakistan Environmental Protection Act 1997, Environmental protection order issued to all restaurants stoppage their activities to prevent further environmental harm. Daman-e-Koh, and Islamabad zoo were also visited, tuck shops and vegetables supplier vehicles fined for implementing the ban on (Manufacturing, Import, Sale, Purchase, Storage and Usage) Polythene Bags Regulations, 2019.
