PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that he is willing to compromise on the ruling government but not on democracy.
Addressing a public meeting here on Friday, the PTI chief said that the ruling government had no respect for democracy or state’s institutions.
Criticising Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, Imran said, “Nawaz had been disqualified because he stole nation’s money.”
“Nawaz had stashed around Rs 300 billion abroad, he said, adding that he (Nawaz) would go to any limit to escape accountability.
The PTI chief also spoke about the commotion that took place earlier in the day, saying that the Sharif family did not want cases against them to be proceeded.
Referring to the NA-4 by-election, Imran urged the public to go out to vote to give a message that they want to see the nation prosper.
Taking a dig at Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Imran said that it was a “miracle” that even a person like him had the audacity to speak on corruption.
“He [Zardari] is the worst disease and robber in Pakistan. He and his sister [Faryal Talpur] have served me with defamation notices because I don’t respect them,” he told the participants of a PTI rally in Peshawar.
“But I will continue to speak the truth. I will go to Sindh to free its people from the chains of fear and the PTI will form the next government in the province,” he claimed.
He also stressed upon the importance of development and progress in the country. While giving the example of Switzerland, Imran said the country had only mountains and cows from which they procure milk and butter but still its people were the happiest.
He added Pakistan was rich in resources and natural beauty but still its people were suffering. The PTI chief shared that he had discovered four places amid the mountains of Kohistan and Hazara, which the KP government had planned to open for tourists by the next year.
On the occasion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Pervez Khattak congratulated Arbab Najeebullah on joining the PTI. “When we asked Arbab Najeebullah why he defected to PTI, he said he trusted Imran,” Khattak said.
He said those criticizing the PTI’s slogan of “change” must visit the province to see what change had been brought about in KP.
Police personnel were deployed on all four sides of the rally ground, situated near Ring Road, to ensure security throughout the event.
Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan had objected to the rally, deeming it to be in NA-4 constituency of Peshawar. However, Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Saqib Raza Aslam clarified that the rally was scheduled for NA-2.
